Marcus has made a wonderful video with Goggles and Spike, to show how counting can be made easier by grouping in tens. Can you think of any ways that counting can be made easy? Leave a comment here.

GOGGLES AND SPIKE – 500 DAYS
Spike told Goggles: “My birthday is in 500 day’s time.”
Goggles replied “no, it can’t be.”
Who is right? Goggles and Spike get help from their friends Claws, Fang and Brainiac to help them work out the answer to the problem.
Shoma, Lucas, Brodie and Dion have used many maths facts to create this movie. Can you spot them? They have also put in an error about one of the facts about the end of the movie to make sure you are paying attention: do you know which one it is?
NUMBER FRAMES
Amy has done a good job of making her own ‘Number Frames’ game. She had to create a frame of numbers and explain how to get from one to the other. Can you make your own number frame? Which numbers will you use?
NUMBER SCROLLS
Brodie and Jai explain their maths activity, Number Scrolls.
They started with two numbers, 81 and 83.
How do you get from 81 to 83? They figured it out using fingers and
thinking, then made a rule on the calculator to create a massively long list of
numbers. 2 + = = = They even knew how to say all of them!
Why don’t you try to make a number scroll on their numbers? Do you notice any patterns?
Maths Challenge Week
Last week we challenged ourselves to stretch our learning in our independent maths activities. Our activities helped us to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We also got to improve how we read, write, say and understand larger numbers.
During the video, the students answer four questions:
- What have you been doing?
- Was there anything tricky about it?
- What is something new you have discovered?
- Can you give a tip for another learner?
Do you think this is a good way to learn maths? Write your comments here.
